1:1 Support

All young people who take up services at the YCP participate in 1:1 support. This enables young people to identify their needs and the areas they require additional support in from their keyworker. 1:1 support and the opportunity to talk confidentially to someone about their issues is valued, enabling young carers to increase their self-esteem, develop more social skills and improve their access to new opportunities.

Those engaging with 1:1 support complete the ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You’ Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which gives all young people the chance to start the project with a similar focus. It enables staff to get to know the young person, their caring role within the family and generates ideas for areas of support. The ILP also ensures that young people have ownership of their support and can track their own progress.

This tool has been used by other young carers projects as an example of good practice.
