Background

The Dundee Young Carers Project (YCP) is based in Scotland and has been successfully working with young people since 1999. Our remit is to find hidden young carers and raise awareness of young carers issues.

The current main funding bodies of the project are The Dundee Health and Social Care Partnership and Children in Need.

Due to particular family situations many young people do not want to be identified as young people who are caring, they do not want to be singled out as different. They are often excluded from the normal childhood support networks.

The YCP has therefore a remit to try and include young people and children from 8-16, who through family illness do not receive the support and services that others in an inclusive society expect.

The YCP is one of the services managed by the Dundee Carers Centre.
